Recipients include people who were not previously registered by the IRS. Around 700,000 stimulus checks representing more than $ 1.3 billion were issued during this round after the IRS processed their 2020 tax returns.
The government has encouraged people who do not receive federal benefits or typically file tax returns to submit their payment information and receive their stimulus money this year.
This request applies to the most recent payments of $ 1,400 as well as the first two stimulus tests, which may also be eligible for individuals.
A refund credit has been added to this year’s tax form so people can claim the money from past stimulus checks if they haven’t already received it.
More “plus-up” payments
The new round of economic reviews also included additional top-up payments to those who can get more money after processing their tax returns for 2020.
About 700,000 of these top-up checks were issued with this round, for a total of about 1.2 billion US dollars.
Additional funding may be due to those whose circumstances have changed since filing their 2019 tax returns, e.g. B. if their income has decreased in the last year or if they have added an additional dependency on their family. If so, the IRS will issue an additional payment once the 2020 return has been processed.
Money for federal beneficiaries
The sixth set of stimulus checks also included approximately 600,000 payments to recipients of social security and supplementary insurance income, including those with foreign addresses.
If you have not yet received your $ 1,400 stimulus check or would like to request direct payment from previous rounds of up to $ 1,200 or $ 600 per person, the IRS urges you to do so Filing a tax return year.
This includes federal recipients who wish to submit information about eligible dependents, as well as the homeless.
Tools for filing your taxes
If you earn $ 72,000 or less, you can file your tax return for free using the IRS Free File program. The IRS has more information on their website on how to apply for your stimulus checks when you normally don’t have to file a tax return.
The IRS also offers tax preparation programs including tax advice for the elderly as well as VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance). The VITA program is available to those with an income of $ 57,000 or less, or with disabilities or limited English proficiency. Although many websites that offer these services are temporarily closed due to Covid-19, the IRS does offer a location tool on its website.
